Explore Android capabilities

Different platforms. Different capabilities. Desktop shortcuts and protections below apply to Windows; Android has its own feature set.

Security

Clear boundaries. Practical protections.

The Windows app separates website content from the browser, checks certificates, and keeps saved passwords encrypted on your PC.

Sandboxed web pages

Every site runs in a sandboxed, context-isolated view with no Node.js access and web security enforced.

Strict certificates

Pages with an invalid TLS certificate are always rejected. There is no "proceed anyway" bypass.

Per-site permissions

Camera, microphone, location and similar requests show an Allow or Block prompt that is remembered per site. Insecure origins are never granted.

Encrypted passwords

Saved passwords are encrypted with Windows DPAPI through Electron safeStorage and are never written to disk in plain text.

In-memory private windows

Private windows use a separate session held only in memory, so cookies and history from that window are gone when it closes.

Contained navigation

Web pages cannot open local file: addresses. Web popups open as a new tab, and any other kind of popup is denied.

Shortcuts

A few keys. A little less effort.

Most shortcuts match the ones you already know from other Windows browsers.

The Windows app uses Chromium through Electron 33. The Android app uses Android System WebView, with a separate Kotlin implementation and a smaller feature set.

  • Written in Kotlin, using Android System WebView
  • Two-pane browsing and desktop-site mode
  • Local bookmarks and history, with Android downloads
  • Direct APK download, currently a debug build for testing

ANDROID APP

Android, with its own capabilities.

XOV Browser for Android uses Android System WebView for websites, with a two-pane layout when you want two pages in view. Switch to desktop-site mode, save bookmarks, keep local browsing history, and download files to your device.

XOV Shield on Android uses a built-in list of known ad domains. Its filtering differs from the Windows EasyList implementation, and video ad reduction is best effort.
